Great book for travel ideas for the everyday person who wants to travel independently - not part of a packaged tour. The hotel prices are not always the same, but gives you an idea what to expect in any given area.
absolutely invaluable travel guide. I wished we'd have ordered it 6 months earlier for planning our travel to England. We took the book with us and the maps were super helpful. After reading the information at home, it was very helpful to review it again when we got to our locations. I'll never travel overseas again without a Rick Steves Guide!
This book is slightly different than the Great Britain book in that it focuses primarily on England - not Scotland, Ireland,etc. That was precisely what I needed. It addressed several areas not covered in the Great Britain book as well as some that are covered, but this had more details. I bought the Kindle version because I didn't want the weight of the book in my suitcase and it works fine, but I do miss the ability to quickly flip from one section to another! If you are a seasoned traveler or a new one, Rick Steves books will work for you.
Rick Steves' England was a great resource for planning activities for a week on my own in London with side trips. Since I had the Kindle version, I could easily carry it on my cellphone and refer to while I was out exploring. Got tips and ideas that I otherwise might have missed.
Rick Steves' guide was SO useful on our recent trip to England. We rented a car and from Yorkshire drove to the Cotswolds, on to the city of Bath and then into Cornwall. We used his guide for overnight accommodations, eateries, and interesting sites. We had no problems finding B&Bs or guesthouses with openings. If not for Rick, we would not have found our last guesthouse - a lovely place in St. Ives overlooking the sea. Great resource. Rick is thorough and down-to-earth.
Helpful tips for a first time trip to England, but some of the advice wasn't quite right and some of the restaurant recommendations are odd (chain places?) Still, very helpful in planning a whirlwind tour and cracking a door open on places I hope to explore further someday.
He's Rick Steves. His information is perfect as always. I took his advice and just tore out the pages I needed so I didn't have the weight of the whole book. On my way home I threw out the book to cut down on weight in my luggage. He publishes updates so often there is not much need to keep the old ones.
The book was helpful, although some of the prices listed were were a little inaccurate. While it would increase the book's price, a few colored pictures and/or maps would be helpful. Detailed maps of downtown London would be more helpful.We have purchased other Rick Steves guide books and have generally pleased with all of them including England.
