5+ Stars Enjoyable Carolyn Brown is a must buy, must read author. This stand-alone is easy to follow, difficult to put down and filled with emotion. There is no violence or drag-you-down drama.Realistic storyline with descriptive writing. Believable characters with distinct personalities. Thought-provoking dialogue.I will re-read this story and always look forward to works by this author.

Touching story about three sisters and a granddaughter who overcome misunderstandings stemming from childhood. The oldest missed having a relationship with her father who abandoned her. The other two lived in a household with a socialite abusive mother, and father (of the oldest sibling) who couldn't accept his first daughter, and wouldn't stand up to his socialite wife, thus missing out on relationships with his other two younger daughters. Through the years it was the paternal grandmother and her mate who supplied love, support and guidance to the three girls and granddaughter. But each of the girls held secrets oft their own as they got older, feeling shame and embarrassment which they were too ashamed to share with their grandmother and her mate. It took the death of their grandmother to bring them all together once again and to learn the biggest secret of them all. This is a heartwarming story about forgiveness, understanding, compassion, and finding love in each of their own lives.

I absolutely could not tolerate the grammar and dialect in this book. I might have enjoyed it had it been written in normal voice. It seemed liked the author was trying to see how poorly she could have the characters speak. Don’t waste time or money on this book.

I hardly ever stop reading a book before I'm finished, but this was so weak, I stopped a quarter of the way through. Amateurish, zero character development, uninteresting plot. Nuff said.

This is such a heartwarming story of three sisters: Dana, Tawny and Harper and also Dana's daughter Brooke. The only time they were all together growing up was the one summer month they spent at Granny Annie's. Dana had a different mother than Harper and Tawny. All three sisters have secrets. None of them had an easy time growing up. Trouble seemed to follow them into adulthood. When Annie died she left her lakeside resort to the three girls. They would now be together for more than a month and maybe longer while they figured things out.You will come to love each and everyone of them. Cry with them. Laugh with them. Feel it all as they learn to be real sisters. Dana's daughter is fourteen going on twenty-five. She is a hoot and will put many smiles on your face. She may even have you laughing out loud. I loved every minute of this book and think it is one Carolyn Brown's best works yet. It really deserves ten stars.

Heartwarming, homespun, quirky, emotional and entertaining adventure for three sisters with a lot of real life regrets and secrets keeping them apart.Dana, Harper, and Tawny are the “Sometimes Sisters” each with a different yet sad history and only one summer together at their Granny Annie’s lakeside resort (their dad's mom). When Granny Annie passes it is her dying wish they come together to run the resort and make a go of it as a family. Uncle Zed is on hand to help them become the sisters they are meant to be. (Granny's best friend) I just adored him so much. This story made me cry, laugh and sigh almost at the same time. Just loved it!

Granny Annie has passed away and her granddaughters have come back to the lake to stay and help Uncle Zed run the cafe, store and cabins with book work. The sisters Dana, the oldest half-sister, Harper the middle sister and Tawny the youngest sister were called the sometimes sisters because they fought a lot amongst themselves.Dana has a fourteen year old daughter and they all needed a place to stay at this time in their lives. This story is one of heartache, family dynamics and finally being mature enough to know what a family is. I say Bravo to Carolyn Brown for writing this story that will make you seek out all the love and joy she has poured into this book. Thank you for what I believe is one of heartache he best stories you have written.

The Sometimes Sisters is another fantastic novel by Carolyn Brown. It takes place at Lake Side Resort in North Texas, just across the Red River from Oklahoma. The lake it is on was once the site of a town where Granny Annie and Uncle Zed along with Grandpa Seamus grew up. Where they lived and played is now underneath the lake. After being gone a long time, the three girls have come home to Granny’s funeral. The three girls are all daughters of Granny’s son, Gavin. However, Dana was a little older than the others and her Mother had never been married to Gavin. Harper and Tawny were sisters who had been separated when Harper was sixteen. She was sent away to school leaving Tawny at the mercy of their unstable mother. Their only stability came from the summers they spent at the lake with Granny Annie. There the three girls grew to know each other although they saw themselves as “sometimes sisters”. Little did they know of the secrets each of them held which would explain a lot of how more alike they were than they thought.Uncle Zed, the Black handiman who had been with Granny Annie and Grandpa Seamus all their lives, was the only one left to run the resort. He knew the plans Annie had made for the girls and it was up to him to see that it was carried out. Her greatest wish was the girls would no longer be “sometimes sisters” but true sisters. Harper was to run the restaurant, Dana and her daughter Brooke were to run the store, Tawney was to keep the books and do the laundry. When time permitted, they were to help each other out.Would the girls truly find their way back home or were Granny’s wishes only a dream? What was the secret Granny held all these years which they were eventually to find out? Could they keep the resort going? Would they ever find true love? The book is fantastic and it keeps you glued to it until you finish. I do hope there is a sequel so we can find out what the girls and Brooke are up to now?
